Little Red Riding Hood
Once upon a time, there was a sweet little girl who was loved by everyone. Her grandmother had made her a beautiful red velvet hood, and she wore it so often that everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, her mother said, "Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother is feeling ill. Please take her this basket of treats—fresh bread, sweet butter, and a pot of honey."
"Yes, Mother," said Little Red Riding Hood.
"Remember," said her mother, "stay on the path through the woods, and don't talk to strangers."
Little Red Riding Hood set off through the forest. The birds were singing, and the flowers were blooming. She was having a lovely walk when suddenly—a wolf appeared!
"Good morning, Little Red Riding Hood," said the wolf with a sly smile. "Where are you going on this fine day?"
"I'm going to visit my grandmother," she replied. "She lives in the cottage by the old oak tree."
"How lovely!" said the wolf. "Why don't you pick some flowers for her?"
Little Red Riding Hood thought this was a wonderful idea. While she gathered wildflowers, the wolf ran ahead to Grandmother's house.
The wolf knocked on the door. Tap, tap, tap!
"Who's there?" called Grandmother.
"It's Little Red Riding Hood," said the wolf in a squeaky voice.
"Lift the latch and come in, dear," said Grandmother.
The wolf burst in, and poor Grandmother hid in the closet. The wolf put on her nightgown and cap and jumped into bed.
Soon, Little Red Riding Hood arrived. "Grandmother, I've brought you treats!"
"Come closer, my dear," said the wolf.
Little Red Riding Hood looked at her grandmother. "What big eyes you have, Grandmother!"
"All the better to see you with, my dear."
"What big ears you have!"
"All the better to hear you with, my dear."
"What big teeth you have!"
"All the better to EAT you with!"
The wolf leaped out of bed! Little Red Riding Hood screamed for help.
A brave woodcutter working nearby heard her cries. He burst through the door and chased the wolf away into the forest, never to return.
Grandmother came out of the closet safe and sound. They all sat down together and enjoyed the bread, butter, and honey.
Little Red Riding Hood learned an important lesson that day: always listen to your mother and never talk to strangers.
