The Sleepy Dragon
In a cozy cave at the top of Snuggle Mountain lived a dragon named Drowsy. Unlike other dragons who breathed fire, Drowsy breathed something much softerâwarm, lavender-scented clouds that made everyone feel sleepy.
Drowsy wished he could be like other dragons. They flew around having adventures while he could barely keep his eyes open.
"I'm always so tired," he yawned to his friend Pip the bird. "I must be the worst dragon ever."
"Maybe you just haven't found your purpose," chirped Pip.
One night, Drowsy heard crying. A little girl named Lily was lost in the forest below. She was cold, scared, and couldn't sleep.
Drowsy flew down slowly, his wings making gentle whooshing sounds like a lullaby. When he landed, Lily gaspedâbut then she saw his kind, droopy eyes.
"Are you going to eat me?" she whispered.
"Goodness, no," yawned Drowsy. "I'm too sleepy for that. Are you okay?"
"I can't find my way home, and I'm too scared to sleep."
Drowsy had an idea. He curled his warm, soft body around Lily like a scaly sleeping bag. Then he breathed out a gentle cloud of lavender warmth.
Lily felt her eyes getting heavy. "That smells like my grandmother's garden," she murmured, and fell fast asleep.
Drowsy stayed awake all nightâfor the first time ever!âprotecting Lily until morning.
When the sun rose, Lily's parents found her safe and sound, cuddled up with a dragon.
Word spread through the kingdom about the dragon who helped children sleep. Every night, parents would bring their little ones to Snuggle Mountain.
Drowsy would curl around them, breathe his lavender clouds, and hum a rumbly dragon lullaby. Every child fell peacefully asleep.
"I guess being sleepy is my superpower," Drowsy said to Pip.
"The best superpower of all," agreed Pip.
